Is success a journey or a destination?

IS SUCCESS A JOURNEY OR A DESTINATION?

What is success?  Success is state or condition of meeting a defined range of expectations. It is also often viewed as the opposite of failure. The criteria of meeting expectations depend on context and may be relative to a particular person or belief system.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” – Lao Tzu. Success much like everything else in life has a process and a beginning. Joy is found in starting something. By taking the first step into the right direction, one is able to unlock potential which they have not tapped into before and test the limits to it. Curiosity is the sole core of all mundane beings and it is with such that propels us to discover the wonders of life exploiting each adventure to the fullest extent.

If you never start something, you will never get to finish it unless you continue persisting and you eventually get it right! Consistency is the key to success. Such is life with various teachings; you never get to finish this ‘game’ – life. Basketball as a sport for example, encompasses teamwork to fulfill its goal to success; winning a chip. The various members of the team have to pass the ball following suit with plethora plays to ensure the ball goes through the net as many times as possible while the opponent team defends their basket. History has proved time and time again that, if all components of an “engine” are well lubricated and well aligned, the machine will run efficiently; in this case a perfectly managed team is destined for success.

“I can’t change the directions of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination” – Jimmy Dean. A destination is a place to which one is journeying to; basically the reason for the journey. Everyone views the earth in a different light. We all have our own beliefs on how the systems of the world work and we each choose to believe it works in a certain way. To some people, success is a destination as they eye-ball it as the end goal. They toil tirelessly each day trying to achieve their individual goals anytime they get. The truth of matter is that they have every right to their opinion in that success is the goal within which we all are chasing.

So is success a journey or a destination? The final conclusion is that success is both. The journey is the destination!

You never complete success like a game. Once you conquer something, it is human nature to venture into a new field and try to replicate the same results there. In this modern era, we all are accustomed to the constant goal of “chasing the bag”; in Kenya's case ,“chasing that gunia”. These two phrases mean the same thing- to chase money or work hard/smart with the end goal being the reasonable amount of cash or balance in your bank account to fund the lifestyle one wishes to live. The journey teaches you unforgettable lessons which one truly understands when they get to the destination and thus this is the essence of success.

“Life to me is a journey- you may never know what may be your final destination” – David Russell
