ROADTRIPS: A SAFEHAVEN TO SELF-DISCOVERY

It is holiday season and what most families don’t consider is that this is a period to reflect on what has occurred throughout the year. What milestones have you surpassed? More so what have you achieved? This is the time we have been given to plan on what’s going to happen the following year.

From road to road, highway to single-lane roads, many conversations sparkle between parents and their kids. This is the running hour-glass to which we are handed by the earth’s system to spend time with our beloved ones and enlighten them on matters of importance. There is more to life than education; intelligence in academic understanding and that according to life in perspective.

Road-trip conversations are meant to instill some of the knowledge we possess from both generations; young and wild with the old and quite noble. This enlightenment solely enables us as young people to get life skills to guide our peers as we grow into the next big thing and create a different society apart from the preceding ones.

Knowledge is power. Lessons learnt from these conversations are applicable in plethora experiences; transitioning from childhood to adulthood. These are the tools of choice to which we use to our advantage and deal with life. We are social beings and it is our mundane nature to socialize with our peers. Therefore, it is highly necessary to learn all we can from each other. It took a millennium for us as human beings to finally come into civilization. With modernization, comes a way of learning plethora things to life as it is; conversations in cars, streets, everywhere you set foot in aid one with knowledge. Conversations in the modern life have amplified knowledge as information travels at the speed of light.

Old is gold. We have grown hearing these three words in our lives. The knowledge deposited into our brains by older people enables us to find ways of living the best life we possibly can in the 21st century. Walking in places filled with different types of pandemics, we must salvage all the time we have with old people and let them pass the torch onto us and let the fire in us thrive ablaze.

Everyone is different. Everyone needs a change of scenery every once and then to enable them to find a path entangled to a trail worth following. Whether loitering, idling or dawdling, each person gets to learn more of this world and about themselves. Conversations generally aid people to discover more about themselves in a short span of minutes than a whole lifetime of soaking tissues watching the success of other people.

There are hidden treasures hidden beneath the curtain-coated mind of a teenager. Through every adventure, there is a souvenir that is secured and very few people take notice. The real voyage of self-discovery exists not in the landscapes but in having observant eyes. “A man’s mind, stretched by new ideas may never return to its original dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
